Before his big day, Phil traveled across the commonwealth, making stops such as one outside Penn State University in State College, where fans reportedly waited more than two hours, as reported by the Centre County Gazette.
PETA and other animal rights advocates, continuing their annual campaign, urged for Phil’s retirement and this year pushed for a hologram to stand in for the famous groundhog.
