Kota the Friend is set to return to Blue Note Jazz Club in 2026 for a new residency with his live band, following last December’s dates that stirred high demand and set off excitement about the unique intersection of his music and a world-class jazz venue.

The residency will showcase four performances in NYC: January 19, March 2, March 30, and April 20, 2026.

December’s Memorable Performances

Kota’s winter shows broke the typical hip-hop mold. With a skilled band, each performance at Blue Note merged smooth lyricism, live musical arrangements, and inspired improvisation, all made vibrant in Blue Note’s renowned setting.

One stand-out moment from December had fans buzzing long after: for the first time ever, Kota played guitar live onstage at the Blue Note, which many attendees called historic. The anticipation has grown since the announcement that Kota would be back for more shows in 2026.

Kota the Friend Speaks on Blue Note

Blue Note is that rare venue where you can feel every little detail,” Kota said. “I felt an incredible connection in December—a warmth and energy that lingered. This new residency is about delivering something meaningful, musically and emotionally, to everyone there. We’re coming back sharper and readier than ever to make it special.”

Kota’s reputation as a lyricist and creative independent has long been solidified, having charted his own career path outside the major record label system. The Blue Note shows introduced another side for some: he’s not just performing hip-hop with players, but crafting a dynamic and evolving live set.

A trained musician since grade school, Kota first picked up the trumpet in fourth grade (PS 282), continued at JHS 113 in Clinton Hill, and later attended the Brooklyn High School of the Performing Arts. This deep musical background shapes his stagecraft, emphasizing interplay, adjustability, and genuine communication with the audience and fellow performers.

Looking Ahead: Unique Nights in 2026

The residency means each night may hold surprises; Kota has stressed that these won’t just repeat the December shows. As stated on NYC Newswire, the format allows for creativity and unpredictability.

Maybe Kota will pick up the guitar again, or it could be the debut of his trumpet playing live. What’s promised is a vibrant show, driven by a band that’s become an essential part of the residency.

Fan Reactions from December

“I’ve been to countless NYC shows, but being there that night, it felt like we were immersed within the music,” shared one attendee. “When Kota grabbed the guitar, the entire room’s energy shifted. It was a rare moment.”

A second fan remarked, “The musicians are phenomenal. Violin blending with hip hop, keyboard melodies, stand-out vocals, and tight drums and bass—it was incredible. I was hoping for another announcement.”

A third summed up, “Kota’s records hit hard, but live, the experience is next-level. It’s personal like jazz, but powerful like hip hop. Blue Note’s the perfect spot.”
